Hype Her Hoops: The Icebreaker

Ladera Ranch, California: Hype Her Hoops – Ice Breaker Tournament turned out to be just as expected, and that was competitive play and lots of energy. The Ice Breaker hosted teams from all over Southern California and Arizona.

Teams competed in divisions from 5th-8th grade, and there was lots of talent in the building for all of those age groups. The Hype her Hoops Circuit is really gaining a ton of momentum and the tournaments are just going to keep getting better and more competitive throughout the year.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME RECAPS

14U/8th Grade Super Girlz Division

Cal Storm Elite 14U  – 67  Newport Rockets – 48

Cal Storm 14U Elite dominated the field in the Ice Breaker Super Girlz Division by going 5-0 and winning every contest by double digits. On Saturday the Storm defeated WCE LA 8th 44-27 & Paul George Elite 65-38. Sunday in the semifinals they handled West Coast GBL Premier Grey 68-47 and then went on to crush the Newport Rockets in the Championship game. With the addition of ‘28 Tatiana Griffin & ‘28 Phenom 6’5 Sydney Douglas puts Cal Storm as the #1…. 14U Girls team in the country.

14U/8th Grade Gold Division

Kaizen Basketball Academy  – 50  Cal Sparks South – 47

The girls from Arizona came to California and showed that there are some real serious hoopers in the Valley of the Sun. Kaizen went 4-1 in the tournament, their only loss coming in pool play  to Cal Sparks Blue 46-51. KBA went on to rattle off 3 wins in a row to come out as the 8th Grade Gold Division Champions by defeating a feisty Cal Sparks South team 50-47 in a great highly contested game.

 14U/8th Grade Silver Division

Creators  – 41  3 Point Titans – 12

The Creators went undefeated on their way to win the 14U Silver division championship. They ended up beating 3 Point Titans twice during the tournament. In pool play they defeated the Titans in a close game 31-27, but in the Championship game it wasn’t even close as the Creators dominated from the beginning to the end, coming away with a 41-12 victory.

 14U/8th Grade Bronze Division

Heat Check  – 48  West Coast Premier OC – 35

The Heat Check had it going throughout the tournament, rolling on all cylinders. They had to really stick together in the semi’s when they played a tough SC Storm team, and pulled out the victory 31-29. Every other game they won, was by double figures going 5-0 and winning the championship 48-35 over West Coast Premier OC.

13U/7th Grade West Division

Heat Check  – 39  Run Jump N Hoop – 30

Going 5-0 in the 13u West Division, Heat Check proved to be one of the up and coming girls 7th grade teams in Southern California. Heat Check is a very tough squad that plays well together. Keep a lookout for them in the future.

13U/7th Grade East Division

West Coast Premier GBL  – 57  WCA – 54

In the best game of the day West Coast Premier GBL pulled off the win over a very tough and scrappy WCA Squad. The game was back and forth, but in the end West Coast Premier GBL was just too strong down low for WCA. Both teams are very solid all around and look for both teams to keep battling on the Hype Her Hoops Circuit.

12U/6th Grade Division

Sports Academy Swish  – 33  3 Point Titans – 20

In a very tough and competitive 12u division Sports Academy 3-1 and beat the 3 Point Titans in the championship game by 12 points. In pool play the 3 Point titans defeated SAS 27-24.

11U/5th Grade West Division

NWTA United  – 22  TW Elite – 11

NWTA went undefeated in the 11u West division, TW Elite challenged them in the first meeting, but NWTA United proved to be just too much in the championship game.

11U/5th Grade East Division

City Hoops  – 32  HB Waves – 16

City Hoops defeated HB Waves in back to back games in this tournament. Both teams had really good performances throughout the weekend, but City Hoops were just too strong for the Waves down the stretch. Look for these two teams to battle many more times in the future.
