
Hype Her Hoops: Heat Check was one of, if not the best all-girls tournament held in California in recent memory. Teams from Southern California, NorCal, Nevada and Arizona competed in this inaugural event in an exciting youth basketball event.
This event also hosted some of the top teams and players in the country. From Nike EYBL & UA sponsored teams to some of the top independent programs all took to the hardwood to see who would come out supreme. We’ll start off with the Super division champions, all-tournament teams and MVP’s of the event.
17U Super Division – Why Not Premier 17U (64) Team Taurasi EYBL 17U (57) OT
Why Not Premier went 4-0 to win the 17U Super Division led by Izela Arenas timely shooting and lockdown defense, Why Not Premier showed why they are considered one of the top programs in the country. Adeang Ring controlled the paint for and Naomi Panganiban controlled the tempo for Why Not Premier that helped lead them to the title. Middle Schooler Tatianna Griffin led Team Taurasi EYBL 17U all tournament long and proved that she’s a force to be reckoned with.

16U Super Division – Why Not Premier 16U (76) Cal Sparks EYBL 16U (62)
Why Not Premier 16U breezed through this division by winning every game by double digits. The team had solid play all around, but it was Amalia Holguin who took home MVP honors in this division. Holguin put on a spectacular show in the championship game. Amalia has also been featured in a Hype Her Hoops new series entitled: Meet The Hoopers where players are highlighted. Why Not Premier is definitely one of the top 16U teams in the country. Cal Sparks had a great tournament, but ran into a buzzsaw. The Sparks were led by Alana White.

15U Super Division – Round Robin
The 15U Super Division was a round robin division where all 5 teams in the division had an opportunity to play each other and boy this division didn’t disappoint. Cal Storm 15U EYBL came away with the title by going 4-0 against some real tough competition. The defeated Troop West 45-29, Cal Sparks 15U EYBL 55-39, Why Not Premier 15U 33-29 and in their last game they defeated Maurice Lucas Enforcers 36-34. This was a great division that saw a lot of close
games and even a couple of buzzer beaters. Zaire Hatter came awy with MVP honors.
